Valtiberina toscana - Anghiari
Anghiari is a medieval village in the Tuscan Tiber Valley, in the province of Arezzo, known for the Battle of Anghiari in 1440, which established Florentine rule over the area. The battle was immortalized, albeit incompletely, by Leonardo da Vinci in a fresco in Palazzo Vecchio, now lost. This episode made Anghiari one of the most fascinating historic villages in Tuscany. Anghiari unfolds along the characteristic "ruga," a steep, cobbled street that cuts through the village, offering picturesque views. The center is a maze of alleys, small squares, and artisan workshops , with restoration workshops and woodcarving artists. Don't miss the Battle Museum , with an immersive narrative of the famous battle, and the Palazzo Taglieschi Museum , which houses sacred works, furnishings, and testimonies of Tuscan life in the past.
