Tarquinia
Tarquinia is one of the most recognizable towns on the Lazio coast, best known for the Monterozzi Necropolis , a UNESCO World Heritage site along with that of Cerveteri. Here, the Etruscan presence is not just a legacy of the past: it is a feature that still characterizes the city and that the Tarquinians feel is part of their identity. Ancient Tarkna was located inland, about ten kilometers from the sea, connected to the port of Gravisca , a very active emporium in the Mediterranean. This constant connection with trade routes has left traces still visible in the finds and the archaeological landscape. Tarquinia is also remembered as the land of Kings . Its ties with Rome are documented since very ancient times: Tarquinius Priscus , Servius Tullius and Tarquinius Superbus , central figures in the history of the Latin city, came from here. Today, Tarquinia combines archaeology, nature, and village life, offering a simple itinerary: the modern city, the museum, the painted tombs, the countryside, and the sea. A region that tells its story without constraints, through the places that comprise it.
