Walk among Etruscan ruins, wild nature and the emerald waters of the Fiora
A trekking route in the Vulci Archaeological and Naturalistic Park designed for everyone, also ideal for families , to experience an Etruscan city, Roman archaeology and the nature of the Maremma Laziale in a single day. The itinerary starts from the Vulci Park ticket office and, along a short path, climbs to the top of the plateau where the ancient Etruscan-Roman city of Vulci once stood. After crossing the West Gate , you walk along the Roman paving towards the Great Temple , the Brick Buildings , and the Apse Building , immediately entering the heart of the archaeological area. The visit continues with the Domus del Criptoportico , where you descend into the basement of a Roman-era residence, and the evocative Mithraeum . Returning to the decumanus, you cross the intersection with the cardo, pass the remains of the shrine of Hercules , and, passing through the East Gate , exit the ancient city. Just outside, you can see the remains of the sacred pool , linked to the local cults. The route then descends into the Fiora River valley , where excavations have uncovered the Emporium , the opus quadratum walls that also served as a levee, the bridge over the Fiora , and some kilns for firing black-glazed ceramics . The path, protected by fences, reaches the bottom of the valley, where the climb and the steps leading back up to the plateau begin. Once at the top, the trail runs along the edge of the plateau and descends, via a few flights of steps, towards the famous Pellicone lake , where you can take a relaxing break while admiring the emerald waters framed by rocky walls and lush vegetation. The return to the ticket office takes place along the path that passes near the refreshment point , where you can taste dishes inspired by the traditions of the Maremma Lazio , thus completing an experience that combines trekking, archaeology and nature in the Vulci Park.
